Nevers has some real heritage gems: the Ducal Palace, built at the end of the 15th century, was the residence of the Counts and Dukes of Nevers, the Cathedral of Saint-Cyr-Sainte-Julitte has the distinction of having two opposing choirs – one Romanesque, the other Gothic – and contemporary stained-glass windows by 4 different artists. Also worth seeing is the Museum of Earthenware and Fine Arts, with a collection of 1,500 items of Nevers earthenware.

On the right bank of the Loire, Pouilly-sur-Loire has an equally prestigious vineyard. La Tour du Pouilly-Fumé, a wine tourism centre, offers an innovative sensory journey. Halfway through the Loire’s route, the Pavillon du Milieu de Loire helps you understand the river’s natural environment, its history, activities and secrets.
Between La Charité-sur-Loire and Nevers, Pougues-les-Eaux, a former spa town, has a casino with amazing contemporary architecture. To the east is the Morvan, its lakes and many outdoor activities.
Further north, Briare is famous for its metal canal bridge built at the end of the19th century, and Gien for the reputation of its famous types of earthenware.
In Puisaye, the medieval construction site of Guédelon, in perpetual activity, continues to witness the construction of a fortified château using the traditional techniques of the Middle Ages.
